This site is dedicated in loving memory to Barbara Marie Hoopingarner (nee Kuhl) and to her gift to the world of her beautiful art and designs.

So many have asked about her remaining original paintings that the family has decided to allow friends and family to purchase certain of the paintings at a silent auction that will begin shortly and close on June 30, 2001.  In addition, we will have discovered an amazing printing process that uses very high quality digital images and high-end water color paper to make reproductions that are difficult to distinguish from the original.

All of the proceeds from the sale of the prints of her original work and from the silent auction will go to benefit the Memorial Garden that she conceived and has been installed at the University Lutheran Church in East Lansing.  This garden was designed in the style that she was so famous for--wild, yet structured, constantly blooming and always beautiful.  Many of the plants will be native to the area and, in fact, will be rescued plants from construction sites and other areas in jeopardy.  This will be a place of quiet reflection for families and a place for all to be able to take the ashes of their loved ones to rejoin the earth.

The dedication ceremony for the garden has been scheduled for May 20th, 2001 during the church service which will include the premier of an original composition for hand bells written in her memory by Barbara's twin brothers in-law, Don & Doug Hoopingarner.  All are invited to attend.  For more information about the church you can visit their site at

About the site and to purchase paintings:

We have taken photographs of as many of her paintings as possible.  Some of these are scans of photographs, some are digital photographs, all have some color distortions.  We have tried to include the best images possible.  The actual prints will first be captured by high-end digital photography prior to printing.

1.  To see pictures of all the art click on the Art button.  Be a little patient, so many images can take a while to load.  To see a larger image double click on the picture you want (and wait a little bit again).   Once you have paged through all the images (there are over 130) use the Back button on your browser to review the list, it is faster than the Previous button on the page itself.

2.  If you wish to purchase a print or bid on an original painting first click on the Friends button and register to create a User ID and Password.

3.  To order prints click on the Place Order button and select the painting number and the quantity you wish to order.  Printing prices are based upon the size of painting and the number ordered.  There are significant set up costs for each print.  As more orders come in we will be able to reduce the price of each print for that painting.  The price you see on the screen when you place your order is the most you will pay.  All prints will be made at the close of the order process on June 30th and shipped within 60 days.  At that time we will let you know what the final price will be and email you an invoice.

Sorry, no sexy shopping carts and all that, this is a non-profit venture.  Keep a list of those you wish to order and them select them on the order page.  We will e-mail or fax you an invoice around June 30th.

4.  The images marked Auction Item on the Art page are available for the silent auction.  To place a bid first register on the Friends list.  Then click on the Auction button and select each painting(s) and make your bid for each one you are interested in.

5.  You may want to check on your bid periodically as everyone is free to bid until midnight June 30th, 2001.  Just return to the site, Log In, and enter your next bid.

To fax an order print the order page and fax it to 323.848.8885.

If you own a Barbara Hoopingarner original and would like to make sure we have an image of your painting to share on this site please contact us at info@hoopingarner.org so that we can include your painting.

A very special thank you to Louis & Milla at OasysGlobal for designing all of the code that runs this site.  Without them we could never have brought this to you.  Please contact them if you ever need any help with web site design or hosting, or just to say thank you.

Finally, but most importantly, thank you to each and every one of you who have given our family so much love and support.  We know she is still with us in so many ways but do miss her in our day-to-day lives.
